The lower strength in 2019 was due in large part to barrels being selected from the lower floors of the Buffalo Trace rickhouses. The higher moisture content and cooler temperatures on the lower floors often leads to a lower proof out of the barrel. The proof comes through and tingles the mouth but for 138 proof this baby is smooth. The mouth tingle doesn’t translate to the Kentucky hug on the way down. It’s as if the proof was in the lower 100s. The age comes through with balanced oak and leads into a fantastic finish.
